Borders and Beyond Exhibition
Detail of Umbrella
Christoph Rihs
Christoph Rihs is a Swiss artist living in Weimar, Germany. He created the installation “Pan” for the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Aarmistice Agreement between North and South Korea. In the site-specific installation, a representation of the Demarcation Line divides the space diagonally, separating two text passages written in chalk on the floor. A panorama of the sky - symbolizing the absence of boundaries - is captured in a multitude of umbrellas positioned randomly throughout the room. As visitors pass through the installation space, they erase the text and the dividing borderline with their footsteps.
