This exhibition is aimed at providing an insight into the realities of modern Swiss art on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the Swiss Constitution.
At this exhibition, fifteen artists who have greatly contributed to Swiss contemporary art in the 1980's and the 1990's will be introduced. There are eight artists exhibiting paintings and drawing works; Maurice Ducret, Christian Floquet, Arnold Helbling, Elisabeth Hellder, Ueli Michel, Andreas Straub, Anna B. Wiesendanger and Uwe Wittwer. They depict the modern formative art with their well-organized structures and outstanding sense of colors through a variety of styles and materials as well as traditional plane forms of expression. There are six artists who work with pictures, picture installation, and image works; they are John Armleder, Balthasar Burkhard, Daniele Buetti, Sylvie Fleury, Pipilotti Rist and Annelies Strba. They have a very wide range of thinking, which is well demonstrated in their works that focuses on the different way of viewing things by completely reorganizing the situation. In addition, Daniel Berset shows a creative and formative world by taking and subjective view on things pursuing secession from daily life in his sculpture.
We hope this exhibition provides a unique opportunity to review the recent past and understand the present and future directions of Swiss art through the diverse works displayed here. Hopefully, it will also serve as a momentum for both Korea and Switzerland to continue with cultural exchanges in the future. |
